May Star Restaurant

Yesterday, I was having easter brunch with family in May Star. I was really excited when knowing that May Star will open their branch in Palembang. May Star firstly started their operation in February 2014. And, it immediately becomes the best Chinese food and dimsum place in Palembang.

Let me just share what we were having for our brunch yesterday.

Siomay

Hakao

Chicken Feet

Xiao Long Bao

Lo Mai Kai

Siomay

Char Siew Bao

Mayo Dumplings

Chong Fan

Fried Carrot Cake with X,O Sauce

Porridge with Pitan

Chinese Tea

We also had some of their favourite desserts, including guiling gao and the best coconut pudding. The guiling gao was a jelly-like Chinese medicine, similar like cincau. Naturally, it was slightly bitter in taste, so they gave us a cup of sugar syrup to add the sweetness of it. The coconut pudding itself was really refreshing with the taste of the coconut. Yumm. Perfect to close our brunch.

Guiling Gao - Rp. 30,000

Coconut Pudding - Rp. 68,800

Overall, the taste of the dimsum was superb, all yummy and fresh. And the service was also very good. Actually, we only wait for about 5 minutes to get our food on the table.

Moreover, if you spend Rp. 500,000 in one transaction, they will give you roast duck for free. You can either have it there or take it away if you have already fulfilled your tummy.

Roast Duck

The roast duck was very delicious, moist and sweet. Not smelly at all. I personally can finish half of the duck by myself. Yumm~

The price for the dimsum was slightly higher than other dimsum place in Palembang. It was around Rp. 25,000/basket. But in my opinion, it was equivalent with the quality of the food and the services that you received. Beside, one basket of the dimsum here contain of four pieces when other place only put three on it. So, it was only slightly different in the price. But, you'll get more in the taste aspect.

To add on, May Star has Happy Hour Promotion where you'll get 50% discount for all their dimsum at 3-5pm Monday to Friday, except Public Holiday. It was really the best promotion ever so don't miss it guys!

Last but not least, the May Star Restaurant in Palembang is HALAL. All the food has no pork and lard included. It was a bit disappointing for me though since our family really loves the crispy pork belly that other brances serve. If you are not forbidden to eat pork, you can try their roast pork in their other restaurants. It was really worth to try!

PS. We also celebrated our best dad birthday yesterday. Yayyy! HAPPY BIRTHDAY for our dad. Wish you always surrounded with happiness, blessed with love, filled with laughter and all the best in life ^_^

Black Canyon Coffee

HEY HOOOO!
After delayed for a few times, finally it's opened yesterday! I, my brother and my boyfriend immediately went there for dinner once we knew it's opened for public. Hihihi, such a kepo person, huh?

Black Canyon Coffee firstly started operating in Thailand and began its growth overseas through franchising. And, Palembang is one chosen city from many city in Indonesia.

Actually, they will be having their grand opening on 18 April 2014. Ssstt, there will be 15% discount on that day. So, don't forget to come by to grab your food.

There are many mouthwatering food that can be chosen, from Asian to Western. Seeing from the menu's picture, all of them look yummmm.

As, Black Canyon Coffee is originally from Thailand, we tried their Thailand's cuisine which were recommended by the waiter.

Pad Thai - Rp. 47,000

The Pad Thai was delicious, with al-dente noodle and the many spices perfectly fit in it.

Omelette Green Curry Rice - Rp. 40,000

The green curry fried rice was nice and very flavourful. However, the rice was a bit overcooked to me. What is the winning point of this dish is that we can taste the green curry right through the rice.

Chicken Cream Soup - Rp. 23,000

The cream soup was perfectly creamy with some chicken chunk in it. Yum, it was perfect in rainy day.

Berry Berry - Rp. 32,000

We want a light drink to close our dinner, so we chose Berry Berry, it was the mixture of some berries. It was indeed refreshing.

Overall, the food is tasty, the ambience is very nice, I can comfortably sit there and have some chit chat with friends for a long long time.

Kedai Kopi Kapitan

There are many coffee shop in Palembang, and this one is the latest opened in Palembang. Like usual, Palembang people always 'kepo', and like to try new things. As you can guess, this coffee shop is always full of people everyday. And me, as a food lover, of course want to taste the food of the Kedai Kopi Kapitan!

After we ordered our lunch, we got complimentary fruit soup. To me, it was really sweet. I cannot stand the sweetness so I just eat the fruit and the nata de coco inside.

Fruit Soup - Free

As usual, most of Palembang's restaurants will serve us pempek as appetizers, you can choose to eat or not to eat them. However, most of the time, we will eat it no matter they are tasty or not. But, this one was really yummy. It was soft and not fishy.

Pempek - Rp. 3.500

In my opinion, the soup of the mie celor was too thick so it was really difficult to mix the noodle and the soup itself.

Mie Celor - Rp. 20.000

Oh nooo! The chef didn't forget to put salt in the fish model, right? It was not salty at all, I have to add much more soysauce to it.

Fish Model - Rp. 15.000

I would not recommend the chicken noodle at all. The noodle was overcooked and really mushy. Moreover, the chicken was not really well-seasoned.

Chicken Noodle - Rp. 19.000

The nasi lemak is good, appetizing and quite aromatic too.

Nasi Lemak - Rp. 20.000

It was just normal plain porridge, no spices was added. For me, the topping were too little for such a big portion of th porridge.

Porridge with Pitan - Rp. 20.000

Lastly, steamed egg. We have to wait for half an hour for the freaking steamed egg. And, the result? Not recommended at all. It was not silky and smooth at all. Additionally, for such a pricey thing, we got so small thin plate of egg. Disappointed.

Steamed Egg - Rp. 15.000

The way I see it, Kedai Kopi Kapitan is suitable for the students with prefer more food with cheaper price. Since, the price of the main course food is not expensive, it is around Rp. 15.000 - Rp. 30.000. To add on, the location of the Kedai Kopi Kapitan itself is across the Xaverius 1 a.k.a Bangau High School. Many times, I can see many students have their lunch here.

La Vita Bella

From the name of the restaurant, we'll know that La Vita Bella serves Italian cuisines. La Vita Bella means beautiful life in Italy. The choice of name itself really represent the interior of the restaurant because it was designed beautifully with an open kitchen display.

Actually, this is the second time I visit La Vita Bella since they currently have lunch promotion for only Rp. 90,000 nett/person for 3-course meal. There were three choices of appetizers, main and desserts. Since three of us want to try it all, we all ordered differently.

Waiting our meal to be served, we were given the bread sticks served with the cheese sauce.

Bread Sticks - Free
For appetizers, you can choose between laksa, chicken thai salad and vietnamese spring roll.

Thai Salad

Laksa

For the main course, grilled chicken, fried rice and pasta were the choices.

Grilled Chicken with Lontong

Pasta

There are always room for desserts, right? Yay!

Banana Kolak

Palembang Traditional: Srikaya

Tea

And, you can choose between tea or coffee to close your course.

What I love about La Vita Bella is the food plating. They are plated beautifully as the restaurant concept is casual dining. Not only good looking, the taste are not bad also. The service is also very good.

I was highly recommend you to try the promotion. Since if you come for dinner or no promotion event, the main course price itself is more than this lunch promotion!

Kitchenette Plaza Indonesia

When Captain America released last week, I went to the crowded XXI at Plaza Indonesia to watch…. Divergent. Lol

Divergent hips started weeks ago, not only in Indonesia but all around the world. Although it has been weeks after that, I was surprised that our theatre was still packed. Perhaps, many people are like me then. I did not really have a plan to watch it at the beginning and did not feel excited about Divergent at first. However, after reading and listening to many good reviews, I decided to watch it and, no doubt, it’s a gooodd movie, although I couldn't say if it’s better than Hunger Games, it's kind of equal to me.

So.. like what you can guess already. After the movie, my friends and I went to eat at Kitchenette!

I ordered their Grandma’s Chicken Casserole with Creamy White Wine Sauce that came in a medium pan consist of 4 chicken legs (it’s 2 chicken legs split into 2, so it’s 4, right?). The chicken was very goodd with a great Italian herb flavour and the sauce was very light that you can eat them all without feeling sick.

Grandma's Chicken Casserole - 110k

I could eat the whole one portion by myself this time but if I could, I would prefer having this to share.

My two friends order kitchenette’s ‘so called’ specialties, galettes, in two different topping. That’s also one of the reasons why I choose to order their gourmet dish instead since I could still take some bites from them to taste these specialties! Hehe!

Nichollas Galette is made for meat lover! It includes sausage, bacon, beef patties, ham and cheese and you could what kind of bacon you wanted (chicken or pork ham). They are good but I just did not love it. It lacks of something to bind the crepes and the meat together like what pizza usually have and moreover, the menu stated that the galette should be spicy but it did not have any spice at all! In fact, the galette was quite under-season.

Nichollas Galette - 89k

Gusteau Galette has the same sauce as Nichollas, which is mozzarella cheese (I think all of them use the same base anyway!). For Gusteau, the topping was a bit simpler with only bacon and roasted potato chips seasoned with rosemary. The crepe was a bit overcooked that you could smell burn from that.

Gusteau Galette - 69k

All in all, the food was good and decent. I'm happy with my food and if you consider that I could get 4 pieces of chicken leg in those casserole for 110k, it's actually quite worth it especially if you order it  to share! If asked whether I would come back for another visit, the answer is probably nope. Next time I go to PI, Bistro Baron that located opposite to this would be my choice! XD
