Ta Wan Restaurant Palembang

YEY! Another franchised Chinese Restaurant has opened in Palembang. This time was Ta Wan Restaurant which has just opened a few days ago in Palembang Icon Mall.

For the opening promo, they offered buy 1 free 1 for all the porridge for one week. So, we ordered the porridge and some other side food.

Three Flavour Porridge (Regular) - Rp. 21.500

Salted Egg & Phitan Egg Porridge (Regular) - Rp. 23.500

Basically, Ta Wan was famous of their Cantonese style of porridge, they were so soft and smooth with some choice of toppings on top.

Steamed Chicken - Rp. 35.000

Broccoli with Mushroom - Rp. 38.000

Soka Crab - Rp. 55.000

Five Flavor Tofu - Rp. 33.000

For me, the soka crab and the tofu was indeed favorite of others. The crab was crispy and flavorful with the perfect sauce added more flavor to it. The sauce was sweet and salty that perfectly mixed together to the crab. The tofu was delicious too. It was deep fried and topped with oatmeal and chili. Beside, the steamed chicken was so tender and fresh with the ginger infused in it.

Overall, the food was tasty and light. And the price was relatively cheap compared to other Chinese restaurants. The service was OK, not bad for their first service in Palembang which was super crowded since it was on weekend. And the place itself has nice ambience, it was clean and comfortable. I really recommend Ta Wan to be the choices for family dinner.

Rice Bowl Restaurant at Palembang Square

Rice-Bowl is another franchise restaurant that opened their branches in Palembang. In Palembang itself, they had opened four outlets in malls. Rice-Bowl serves many different variety of Asian cuisine. Beside, they serves quick food with rice or noodles and the toppings served in bowl.

We grabbed the quick food for our dinner with egg and tofu as our side dish.

Egg Tofu

This was super yummm! The eggs were gooey and soft. And, the tofu was sooo smooth.

The taste of the rice bowl was OK. They were deep-fried meat with different sauces. The portion of the rice was big, but the toppings were not too many compared to the rice.

My review point:
- Ambience: 6/10
- Taste: 6/10
- Price: 6/10

Mie Celor 26 Palembang

Palembang's favorite brunch. Yay! Mie Celor.
Mie Celor is yellow big noodle, same noodle that was used for lomie, with the thick soup made up from prawn broth, coconut milk and some spices.
Mie Celor 26 was indeed the best in Palembang. Why 26? Simple, it was because they are located in 26 ilir street in Palembang. Everyday, they had full of people eating there. And, the last few months, they expanded their store from one shop to two shops. So now they had bigger place to serve us their mie celor.

Mie Celor - Rp. 14.000

The taste of the mie celor couldn't be compared to others, really. The prawn flavor was infused to the soup well and the thickness of the soup was perfect. Beside, they served the noodle with extra chunk of the prawn made it more fresh and flavorful. Moreover, the fried shallots and the fresh bean sprouts added the crunchy and crispy aspect for the mie celor.

Pondok Charlie 5

Pondok Charlie 5 has been known for one of the best Indonesian food restaurant in Palembang. Every time I went passed this restaurant, I always saw many people eat here. Basically, Charlie 5 sells seafood cooked with Indonesian spices. And, the most important thing in Indonesian cuisine is the sambal or chili. For me, Charlie 5 managed to pull off their sambal terasi to be the best ever so far.

Grilled Nila Fish - Rp. 8.500/ons

Stir-Fry Kangkung - Rp. 16.000

Beef Pindang

Gepuk/Beef Penyet

Tempe Bacem

Every food they delivered was superb and delicate. They were seasoned perfectly with traditional Indonesian spices. The sambal terasi itself added extra punch to the food.

Kolak Campur - Rp. 12.000

After we saw the display of the Kolak Campur in the menu, it was so mouth-watering, made us immediately wanted to give it a try. The Kolak Campur made up of the bubur sumsum and biji salak, basically they were the mixture that were made from rice flour. Beside the good looking, it tasted very good, fresh, not too sweet and had the perfect balance between the Java sugar and the coconut milk.

I really recommend Pondok Charlie 5 to be the choice for having Indonesian food. The place itself was really suitable for family and friends as they had big table for four to ten people to sit together.

Kuto Besak Theater Restaurant

I love family dinner!!
This time, me and my family went to Kuto Besak Theater Restaurant for dinner. Benteng Kuto Besak is a historical place in Palembang beside the Ampera Bridge itself.

Benteng Kuto Besak Restaurant has many kinds of food menu, from Asian to Western. And, we were having seafood for our dinner and gado-gado as the appetizer.

Gado-Gado

Grilled Gurame Fish

Prawn Curry

Grilled Beef Ribs

I really recommend to have the gado-gado. It was so delicious, the spiciness of the peanut sauce was perfect and the vegetables were fresh. The fish and the prawn were also super fresh and not fishy. They had the sweetness and the natural flavor of the seafood. However, I was not impressed with the curry, it was not thick enough and the taste was a bit strange to my liking. The beef ribs was immediately becoming one of my favorite. It was so tender and juicy, the spices were perfectly infused to the meat. Yum yum!

Usually, we went for hot tea for our drinks, but the hot tea price was about the same to the juices. So, me and my mom ordered freshly fruit juice, my brother went for hot chocolate and my dad was having Aceh Coffee.

Strawberry Juice

Aceh Coffee

I really impressed with the interior of this restaurant which was so cozy, vintage and elegant. There was a touch of modern classic inside the building with the crystal lamp in the middle of the room.

There are live music available every night and you can also request some music to be sung by the performers.

Not to forget, they had a big private room for meetings or private party. And, sometimes, they had BBQ dinner on weekend in the outside of the restaurant where there was a small garden.

My score for Kuto Besak Theater Restaurant:
- Ambience: 9/10
- Food : 7/10
- Price : 5.5/10

Cuppa Coffee at Palembang Icon

Cuppa Coffee Palembang Icon is the second outlet in Palembang. Before, they had opened their café in Lippo Plaza Jakabaring. Since it is a bit far from the city, I seldom went there. And, now they opened in Palembang Icon, I was excited to give it a try. Moreover, they had 50% discount in selected menu for their grand opening.

After having our seat, me and my boyfriend asked the waiter what were the discounted menu on that day. All sweet pancakes, selected spaghetti and frappuccinos were half-priced. But, the only spaghetti available was the one with bolognese sauce. We had no choice but to order it. And, we also ordered chocolate pancakes and frappuccinos for our drinks.

Beef bolognese Spaghetti

I was disappointed when the waiter sent the food to us. Where was the sauce and the beef? Wasn't it supposed to be beef bolognese?

Chocolate Overdose Pancakes

I was expecting to have fluffy pancakes since they have quite many pancakes menu. However, it was so awful, tough, not fluffy all. The pancakes were more like a failed bread rather than pancakes. After one bite, I felt like did not want to have the second bite.

Avocado Virgin

Milk & Cookies

The frappuccinos were good and thirst-quenching. The avocado virgin was a bit too sweet for me. The milk and cookies was basically a mixture of ice, milk and oreo cookies. I liked the milk and cookies Frappuccino better since it was not too sweet but still refreshing.

Cuppa Coffee Café in Palembang Icon Mall does not have many seats inside the mall, they have more on outdoor seats. And lucky me, I got the last table inside yesterday since I was not really excited to sit outside.

In my opinion, the Cuppa Coffee focused on the drinks rather than the food menus. As the food taste and quality were not up to standard based on the price they have given. Well, maybe because they put emphasis more in socializing café rather than the lunch or dinner place. To add in, the service was a bit too slow, my boyfriend got his spagetthi finished, but I still did not have my failed pancakes. Huff!

Hmm, for your information, they are currently having everyday discounts. 25% discount for food only on Monday and 20% discount for food and drinks from Tuesday till Sunday.
