Yuhuuu, We finally made it hereee!!
It's been quite a while since we wanted to try UNION that we heard a lot of good things about.
UNION was opened by the same creator of Loewy and has established 2 branches around Jakarta including at Plaza Senayan and Pondok Indah Mall.
Their menu reflects their concept as an American Brasserie, Bistro and Bar starting from a variety of sandwiches, pastas, desserts and specialty cocktail.
All of the cakes look so appealing and appetising that I wanted to try them all. I knew that they have a cake sample set with the choice of 5 mini cakes but unfortunately they only serve it during tea hours from 3-5pm.
As my aunt was craving for doughnut, we ordered one of their doughnut in Pandan. From the look of it, you could probably tell that the doughnut is soft and fluffy. Don't expect it to be a round crunchy doughnut like at Dunkin Donut but think of it as J.Co resemblance. The doughnut was OK in general but I could barely taste the pandan flavour.
The highlight of the day was the Red Velvet!! This is what we were crazy about trying! The Red Velvet was not displayed at the cake chiller in front. The waiter said there was no more space and I straight away thought about how popular the cake must be that most people would ask for it themselves without having to look at it.
Beside the Red Velvet, we also tried their Nastar Crumble which was recommended by the waiter as the second most popular cake at UNION. The popularity rating for both cakes were tied among us. My aunt and I prefer the Red Velvet but my sister and cousin prefer the Nastar Crumble, which has a more fluffy and moist texture. The taste was very similar to the traditional nastar cookies with the additional spongy, airy cake. The red velvet had a denser texture. It took me some times to really enjoy the cake but the flavour could not lie. Together with the cream cheese, they were unquestionably yumm.
Red Velvet - 50k |
Nastar Crumble - 50k |
For the Main Course, we ordered 3 dishes to share; Pan Fried Barramundi, Veal Sausage, and the basic Aglio Olio Spaghetti.
The Barramundi taste OK but quite disappointing in portion. It might be perfect for dinner but not for lunch. No wonder, their special lunch menu only featured many variety of sandwiches but not their main dishes. The scallops were smaller compared to the one that we got in our spaghetti.
Pan Sear Barramundi, Roast Scallops, XO Vinaigrette - 150k |
Grilled Veal Sausage with Smoked Beef & White Bean Stew - 135k |
Seared Scallop Aglio Olio, Spagetti, Garlic Confit, Chili - 95k |
C Plus Smoothies - 55k |
Strawberry Fresh Juice - 30k |
We spend around 750k for four people dining ordering 2 main courses, 1 pasta, 2 giant sliced cake, and drinks. It did a little pricey for some but I would say it's worth trying. I really enjoy eating here and would have no problem of coming back again for a high tea or maybe for weekend brunch for the sandwiches.
That's it for today's post.
Here is a picture of myself taken by big sis before digging our food!
Happy Weekdays and see you in the next post :)
